Have I ever told you how much I love “Mom made toys”? If not then I am telling you now! We had the pleasure of meeting Laurie Peterson mom and founder of Build & Imagine Toys at Toy Fair in New York. I love to meet the smaller parent made toy companies, I feel like they bring a totally different dynamic to the toy making industry.Plus who better to know what a kid likes to play with than a mom or dad! We were introduced to Build & Imagine StoryWalls and I fell in love instantly and I had to have a set to bring home to my kids who all love to build and love imaginary play. Children with ADHD are very creative and if you find the right toy you can keep their focus for hours, the key is finding the right toy and this one was a hit!
What are Build and Imagine StoryWalls?
They are like building blocks meets Dollhouse meets dress-up dolls. It’s a unique mashup featuring adventurous characters and rich illustrated details that inspire girls and boys alike to build and imagine. There were many features I loved about this toy but the one thing that I liked the most was that they could BUILD their own dollhouse or adventure land it was able to change with their imagination. The other feature I loved was that it was magnetic so pieces snapped together and apart easily and that the walls and pieces were double sided with images to give you double the opportunity to change your creation. Even the little figures have magnetic outfits and are made of a very strong a durable wood that can’t break or get damaged after one or two times playing with it. The variety of sets she has is amazing as well, everything from a castle to a pirate ship, fairytale theater and more! See some of our favorite sets below by clicking the pictures!!!
We have three kids who absolutely loved it…The two girls I knew right off the bat would love it but I wasn’t sure about my one boy who loves to build but usually doesn’t like anything that resembles a “doll”. I was surprised to see him fighting to want to play with the two girls and how the figures and scenes were so gender neutral. We were fortunate to take home the castle set and the kids played with it for hours and actually, all got along while they played with it which was another plus. Two of my kids have been diagnosed with ADHD and finding toys that will keep their attention is extremely hard. They have short attention spans with most toys and get bored very quickly…but not with this toy! I highly recommend it for play therapy as well for children who struggle with anxiety as they can act out what is bothering them with the play figures.
