We had the pleasure of trying out the Hanging Nest JOKI kids hammock this month for my son. My son over the summer was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and began to have tons of issues with sensory overload. Many times when he get’s flares from his SPD he needs to feel safe and confined away from anyone and away from any outside stimulus. So when we were asked to review this amazing hammock I was beyond thrilled as we had been looking into getting him one for his room. The crow’s nest makes children feel safe and simulates a mother’s womb, and is very comforting to their neurological system when it is on overload. Another thing I found interesting is the gentle rocking movement stimulates the sense of balance. This positively impacts the ability to concentrate and promotes learning success in reading, writing and arithmetic. That’s why the children’s hanging nest JOKI is “recommended by the German Federal Association for the Promotion of Posture and Physical Exercise (BAG)!”
I was beyond impressed by the construction of the Crow’s Nest made of high-quality cotton and hangs like a cocoon from the ceiling. It comes with a large, comfy cushion and even has enough space for a blanket and some stuffed animals to comfort the child. When I learned it was safe for inside a child’s bedroom my first concern was how was it safely going to hang? We were given this amazing suspension kit that attached to a support beam in his room, and a very easy rope and hook system to safely hang the hammock from the ceiling. JOKI is suitable for children aged 3 – 9 years. A minimum height of 200 cm (6 ft 7 in) is recommended for the hanging nest and up to 175lbs! The cotton material is robust and easy to clean. The product is certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV) and bears the GS seal for “Tested Safety”. Which was another great thing I loved was that my daughter who was eight years old could also use it, and it would grow with my family!
My son has loved having this in his room, we have used it for working on his sensory diet and also used it for quiet time when he is spiraling out of control. I would highly recommend this for any child’s room, but especially any children with ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, PANDAS/PANS and any other neurological issues that prevent a child from feeling grounded and safe!
